Job Description
A North London council wishes to appoint an Assistant Building Surveyor for a 3 month contract to join the property team.
Your overall role will be to assist the Principal Building Surveyor on small to medium sized maintenance or improvement projects from inception to completion including contract administration.
You will be working on local authority stock including housing and schools, conducting general surveying work including schedule of condition and repairs. You will assist on administrating small projects including specifying works and instructing contractors.
Duties will include preparing tender lists for contractors and ensuring implementation of the council's policies regarding maintenance. You will prepare schedules and expenditure profiles for projects. You will be responding to complaints by confirming the nature the request, technical priority, approximate order of cost and appropriate contractors and procurement method. You will sometimes be required to carry out condition surveys.
It will be your responsibility to ensure compliance by contractors and consultants with health & safety legislation and with the requirements of the CDM Regulations.
The successful candidate will have a relevant qualification. It is desirable that you have had experience in a surveying office however a candidate with limited experience who has completed a relevant building course will be considered. You should have knowledge of building construction and local authority experience is an advantage.
