Calco has been selected as one of a handful of agencies to partner Network Rail in supplying engineering staff nationwide and as such are looking to recruit a Structures Renewal Engineer.

Working in the Civil Engineering department the position involves assisting the civil engineering renewals team by producing remits for the 07/08 structures workbank. This work involves understanding the problem with a structure in conjunction with the structure's asset managers and writing a remit for works to solve this for the network rail delivery team. A good understanding of structural behaviour will be required and previous railway experience will be useful.

The civil engineering team has responsibility for the following engineering assets:

· Underbridges
· Overbridges
· Footbridges
· Sidebridges
· Tunnels
· Culverts
· Retaining walls
· Coastal defences
· Earthworks (embankments and cuttings - including associated drainage)
· Stations
· Lineside buildings
· Light maintenance depots
· Maintenance delivery units

The civil engineering team also includes specialist teams that provide expertise to the whole company on environmental policy and fire safety policy.

Candidates who wish to apply will have a minimum HND/HNC in Civil Engineering, 5 years’ relevant engineering experience coupled with a sound knowledge of structures engineering policies and standards. In addition, an understanding of safety management systems and risk analysis techniques.

It would be desirable if you were a chartered or incorporated engineer, had experience in the use of estimating systems and been involved in project management.
