Job Description
Draughtsman / Detailer. Earning capacity £33 to £40,000 based on level of competence and experience, plus excellent career development and earning potential, staff package includes life assurance, company pension scheme, and 29 days holiday per year.
Location: London WC1
You will be working in a team of 3 Draughtsmen under the Design Manager. The team as a whole are all very new, the offices have only recently been acquired and recruitment is under way to also include a Surveying team and other departments.
Reporting to: Design Manager
Duties and Skills:
Experience within architectural steelwork, and preferably with stair-casing, handrails, balustrades, balconies, canopies and steel cladding.
In the Drawing Office an in house system of Ex-Steel is used as well as standard Autocad programmes.
Having recently been awarded the contract for DLR this will be a main part of the role in time to come however there are many projects at present surrounding the London Underground Network.
Applicants should posses a good working knowledge of architectural metalwork. You should be able to demonstrate knowledge of detailing balconies, balustrades, handrails, steel cladding, lift shafts and small structural pieces ie railway walk bridges.
The job will entail activities associated with a range of architectural metalwork and structural steelwork installations.
You will need to be aware of the work involved in:
• Reading and interpreting installation and setting out drawings
• Marking off, setting out, checking levels, and lifting templates
• Installation / erection of components to required quality standards (dimensional tolerances and visual standards), and to schedule deadlines
• Adjustment and modification of components where necessary
• Welding of stainless steel and mild steel connections using TIG, manual metal arc and stick procedures
• ‘Finishing out’ activities including cleaning, grinding and polishing
• Keeping all relevant records to ensure proper cost control on each job.
• Keeping all relevant records as appropriate to all aspects of the job.
• Communicate effectively with the client representatives on site.
Delivery:
You should understand how site staff:
• Must contribute to/understand/action production schedules and organise personnel, equipment and material in order to meet schedule requirements.
• Must plan/prepare in detail with their teams all site installation work in order to agree the most efficient work methods and to identify in advance any additional requirements for resources and equipment.
• Must strive to meet all production/delivery deadlines, ensuring clear delegation and prioritising of tasks, and must react rapidly to any issues/difficulties which could result in missing deadlines.
• Must document and log all changes to the scope of works on site and relay this information to our site specific projects manager and quantity surveyor.
Quality:
• You must understand the quality standards expected to meet customer requirements and to simplify the task of on-site fitting.
• You must ensure that required company procedures for quality control and assurance are followed e.g. testing and inspection, documentation etc.
Personal Performance:
You must possess excellent spoken and written English in order to communicate effectively with other site personnel.
• Must represent the best interests of the company at all times in a professional and positive manner.
• Must set an example on behaviour, attendance, safety, fairness etc.
• Must function effectively as a team player with all company personnel maintaining clear and factual communication at all times.
Package:
Salary: £30-40k depending on experience
Company pension scheme (3% employer contribution), Life Assurance (4 times annual salary), twice yearly company performance related bonus (July/Dec), 29 days holiday inc statutory days.
Hours: Standard hours are Monday to Friday 9am-5pm however a rota is in place to cover the drawing office from 8.30am through to 6.00pm
Health & Safety:
• Must have a sound appreciation of the hazards associated with site working and must follow company and site safety rules, regulations and procedures.
• Must ensure that risks to any employee’s health and safety are identified and appropriate actions taken to eliminate/minimise these risks.
• Must follow company procedures for accident/incident reporting and take action to avoid re-occurrence.
