Job Description

Our client, a leader in major civils, is currently requiring a Tunnels Shift Team Leader to join their team on a prestigious project on the A3 at Hindhead. The scheme consists of two tunnels both approximately 2km long and reaching a maximum depth of 65m which will be constructed using a mostly bored, (SCL) Sprayed Concrete Lining method.

Operating on a shift basis you will be responsible for a small team reporting to the Tunnel Agent. You will liaise with designer, site geologists and assume overall responsibility for health and safety, quality, risk management and effective coordination of the tunnelling operations while also managing the activities of the engineers, surveyors and materials engineers for your shift. During the night shift and weekends you will be the senior responsible person on site. The successful applicant will also be required to produce weekly work programmes and report on progress and will be charged with the ordering and calling off of materials for the allocated section of works as needed.

The ideal candidate will have obtained a minimum of HNC/HND (or equivalent) in, civil engineering, mining, geotechnical engineering, mining surveying or a related subject and also hold a relevant CSCS Card (Platinum or Black). Ideally you will have several years senior management experience working underground in the civil engineering or mining industries with previous experience of wet sprayed concrete lining systems for tunnel construction as it is a requirement for this role.
As Section Engineer will take responsibility for the tunnelling activities carried out during that shift and strive to meet the production targets set. You will also endeavour to achieve the highest standard of health and safety while continuing to motivate your team to achieve.
