The client is a major UK power company. They wish to employ an Electrical Design Engineer on a contract basis to carry out the following:
The Engineer will be responsible for supporting the Project Managers in producing design packages for a range of projects in the voltage range11/33/66/132kV. These include new substations, switchgear upgrades, EHV transformers and protection schemes.
The Design Engineers duties include detailed scheme design, equipment specification, and production of schematic and wiring diagrams, plant layouts and cabling schedules, using CAD.
You will be required to work across a wide range of accountabilities listed below.
Work with the EHV Planners to develop detailed proposals
Take overall responsibility for the design of projects with an average value of £3-5M
Undertake detailed electrical and site / route feasibility studies, including plant layouts for substations to determine viable cost effective and environmentally acceptable options.
Give technical and design advice to Project Managers and other staff to facilitate the successful design and implementation of projects.
Assist Project Managers in managing external specialist contractors engaged in the design of projects
Assist Project Managers in the preparation of Health and Safety Plans and Risk Assessments within the scope of the CDM Regulations
Prepare the specification and procurement of specialist plant, equipment and contractors to a stage where authorisation can be sought
Liaise with Operations team to ensure the efficient safe introduction of new equipment.
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience
Experience in aspects of power engineering.
Aware of current technical developments.
Self-motivated & able to work under pressure
At least an HNC/D or equivalent in electrical engineering discipline.
Fully conversant with PC based design tools. CAD experience desirable
Experience in design of electrical networks, their development, construction and operations.
