Job Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen for 2 planners in the Swindon office of an international multi-disciplinary consultancy.
There are currently 7 planners in the Swindon office and they are looking for 2 planners / senior planners to join them. Most of their clients are within the public sector, but they are seeking to gain more private sector clients. The successful candidate will work in a multi-disciplinary environment interacting with masterplanners and urban designers, transport planners, economists, landscape architects, other environmental staff and engineers on high-profile projects that are at the forefront of innovation and good practice. As such, the work is both challenging and rewarding.
The role involves supporting the leader of the development planning team in Swindon. In particular, you will work on projects such as town centre and community master plans, design guides, sustainable urban extensions and submissions to emerging LDFs, including Area Action Plans. Your responsibilities will include:
- day to day co-ordination responsibility for regeneration projects;
- working in concert with master planners, urban designers and other professionals on master plans and development briefs;
- undertaking economic appraisals, in concert with development economists;
- preparing , submitting and negotiating on planning applications, including those requiring Environmental Impact Assessment;
- analysing the implications of planning policy on proposals and advising on procedures associated with the planning system;
- organising, undertaking and reporting upon public consultation and engagement exercises;
- working with water engineers and other professionals on plans and strategies to minimise and manage flood risk;
- deputising for the market sector manager in representing the company;
- taking responsibility for the preparation of bids for projects;
- assuming project management, including maintaining financial and communication records; and
- supervising and mentoring junior staff to help realise their potential.
This is an excellent opportunity for candidates who have not worked in the private sector before, however my client is of course interested in those who have a track record in consultancy.
In return this consultancy will make a commitment to your personal and professional development, they will offer you a package that recognises and rewards success and provide an environment that encourages a healthy work life balance with flexible working conditions. You will work with a committed group of professional colleagues. There is the option to work at home on some days. Their offices are centred upon a listed building in parkland and they have a dedicated bus service to the site.
