Description: We have an immediate requirement for an ecologist to join our Environment group in Bristol. This full time permanent position is within the Environmental Management group and the main focus of work will be supporting the senior ecologist with Phase 1 and Phase II ecological assessment, mitigation design, report writing and project management. Although the role is based in Bristol, opportunities will exist to work on projects throughout the UK and overseas.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of a first degree in Environmental Science (or similar subject) and preferably a master's degree in a related discipline, with relevant consultancy experience, ideally with some experience in ecological assessments for highways and other transportation projects. Good written English and a full UK driving license are essential as is good team working and the ability to work on their own initiative.

The role will be one of carrying out and managing ecological assessments and the ability to offer expertise in botany would be particularly advantageous as would holding one or more licences for survey of protected species. The successful candidate will be a member of IEEM or IEMA and have demonstrable experience in ecological survey and analysis from the initial Phase 1 to designing and implementing mitigation strategies, including assisting with applications for Defra development licences. Good communication skills are essential as the role will involve ensuring good working relationships with internal and external clients and contributing to tenders.

Personal attributes: responsible and friendly, hard working, flexible and with a desire to progress within the organisation. Language skills would also be favorable.

Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications but will be in the range £24-£26k
