Job Description
The client name has become synonymous with the very best in construction, combining engineering excellence with craftsmanship and client service. This division is responsible for the civil engineering activities of the Company Group, in both the UK and overseas and to date has successfully undertaken mainly larger projects. It is fully self sufficient in terms of the resources that are essential to deliver major projects.
In response to a shift in the available civil engineering workload and a desire for clients to employ 'local' contractors, in 2006, our client has opened four regional offices, based around existing long term workloads. These offices are situated as follows :-
"Halton serving the North West
"Wrexham serving North Wales
"Euston Station serving the South East
"Devonport serving the South West
They have now taken the decision to expand the business to be undertaken through the South East regional office. In order to facilitate this expansion a Business Development Manager is required.
Requirements
The role will report to the Regional Manager and will require the usual interactive role with other departments such as Estimating (to ensure that we have a good stream of tenders) but also with Proposals who are responsible for the production of all PQQ and other submissions, tender planning, etc. It is envisaged that the role will be an 'out and about' one and will involve setting up social and other client events.
Responsibilities
The role of the BDM is to bring their marketing expertise and contacts to this client to enable the South East civil engineering unit to increase its turnover in a sustained and controlled way. The BDM is required not only to identify opportunities through the usual channels but to know about them before they are publicised. It is considered that the issue of an OJEU notice and a PQQ submission will be the last hurdle to jump, not the first we know of a project. The private sector is of particular interest but will require expert knowledge and contacts as these projects are seldom OJEUed or otherwise publicised. They will also identify future markets as we require a BDM not just a 'marketeer'.
