Job Description
A Part Time Development Control Assistant Planner is required by a Local Authority based in Northamptonshire. Main responsibility, to assist one of the two Area Development Control teams in the processing of planning applications and related technical work.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Processing of and making recommendations on planning and other applications as allocated by the Team Leader, including negotiations of amendments as necessary, to achieve good design.
• Advising the public and agents on the need for planning permission and the Council’s planning policies / guidelines in respect of all developments.
• Preparing appeal statements to support the Council’s decision to refuse planning permission, as allocated by the Team Leader.
ESSENTIAL ATTRIBUTES:
• An understanding of the planning system and the function of Development Control to enable the assessment of a wide range of planning applications.
• Knowledge of the Development Process and the ability to negotiate effectively.
• An understanding of design and aesthetics.
• Ability to deal with the public both face to face and by telephone and explaining potential solutions to non professionals.
• Ability to assimilate and work to procedures accurately.
• Ability to interpret plans and drawing accurately.
DESIRABLE ATTRIBUTES
• Computer literacy
• Surveying experience.
• Appreciation of Local Government and public accountability.
You will have a degree or diploma in Town Planning recognise by the Royal Town Planning Institute and a Clean Driving License.
