About the Role:

You’ll play a leading role in designing and managing highway improvement projects. It’s a broad remit that will see you producing relevant drawings, calculations and reports, as well as ensuring work adheres to industry best practice. In addition, you’ll provide advice and technical support to project managers, and promote our services to clients.

About You:

We’re looking for a proven project manager with the ability to oversee budgets and meet deadlines. Naturally, you’ll have a degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent, as well as a sound practical knowledge of highway design and construction. You’ll also need strong IT literacy and excellent report-writing skills.

PURPOSE:

Responsible for the successful delivery of own schemes and that of junior staff. Be a technical expert.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

- Assisting Principal Engineer in delivery of program.
- Monitor financial aspects of own schemes and that of junior staff.
- Effective project management of own schemes and that of junior staff.
- Capable of effectively checking documents and drawing produced by fellow colleagues to ensure all aspects of the design are fit for purpose.
- Assisting junior staff with practical/technical advice and all aspects of design and construction.
- Prepare reports on identified problems and recommend suitable solutions.
- Good report writing skills.
- Carry out specific items of research as directed by Senior/Principal Engineer.
- Have a good understanding of CDM 2007, Health and Safety and Environmental management.
- Undertake site visits for design and construction purposes.
- Capable of chairing a scheme progress meeting effectively.
- Ensuring effective monitoring of own site works and that of junior staff.
- Comply with company instructions, procedures and requirements.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

Qualifications:

Essential: “A” levels, ONC/OND, HNC/HND. Desirable: BEng/MEng or equivalent degree. Working towards professional status – IEng/CEng.

Knowledge / Experience:

You will have a good varied experience in civil engineering, especially structural road maintenance work. Essential: Knowledge of current design standards and practices.

Technical Skills / Ability:

Must be computer literate. MS Project experience will be an advantage. Ability to work under minimum supervision essential. You will have the drive and determination to meet targets. Valid clean UK driving licence essential. Good communication skills and excellent report writing. Must be a team player yet able to work alone. You will be interested in working in both an office environment and spending time out on the road network. Have a flexible thought process and be able to adapt to changes as required by the business and clients.
