Job Description

A Design Manager is sought to take on the early stages (RIBA A-D inclusive) of the £200m Docklands Light Railway DLR 3-Car Enhancement Scheme. This role is based in Poplar, London. As Design Manager you will assist in the identification and direction of the project requirements in terms of design delivery, and establish and maintain strategies for both design and communications, the selection of the appropriate design team.

The Design Manager will also aid the Senior Design Manager to identify risk and opportunities. You will then independently manage the design during the latter stages (RIBA D-F), and review processes, performance in terms of cost, time, quality and value is to be maximised throughout, with the optimal use of resources to ensure that expectations are achieved, or exceeded.

Fully participate in the Design Management Forum, engage in mentoring/coaching activities, and assist in the dissemination of the design management process and procedures with others within TWC that interface with the Design Management team. The pursuit of best practise, in terms of identification and promotion, is to be a key motivator and this should be reported within TWC in order to share knowledge whenever possible.

Phase one of the project includes extending platforms, plus strengthening viaducts and bridges, and is due to be completed late in 2009.

Phase two will permit three-car trains across the DLR network where only two-car trains are currently allowed. The government is expected to rubber-stamp this part of the project this year allowing work to accommodate the extended trains to be completed in 2010.

In return a salary of £50k + £7k car allowance, bonus holiday comes with this opportunity to work on a well known project.
