Job Description

Based in a well located area of north west London, this local authority has an urgent need to take on an experienced and qualified Environmental Health Officer to help with an increase in workload regarding housing.

The successful applicant will be required to help deliver a program of activities with respect to private sector dwellings, where necessary taking formal action against agents and owners. The role will involve, meeting and dealing with members of the public and with management at all levels within commercial and industrial organizations.

The role may also require the successful applicant to carry out duties in any one of the Environmental Health services in the borough. This position will also involve providing up to date professional advice on a wide range of issues relating to environmental health.

On a day to day basis the Environmental Health Officer may also be required to inspect plans submitted to planning and building control for approval, to prepare reports and statements of evidence for legal proceedings and to supervise works carried out by council contractors.

You will need to be an experienced Environmental Health Officer with a degree (or equivalent) in Environmental Health, and a certificate of registration of the Environmental Health Officers’ Registration Board. You will also need to be a Graduate, Corporate or Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute for Environmental Health.

You will have solid knowledge of current legislation, and be aware of any technical and professional developments relating to Environmental Health. You must be able to carry out as necessary, the duties and responsibilities of an inspector under the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974and as an authorised officer under the Food Safety Act 1990.

All applicants must have good MS Office skills, be able to show initiative and be able to work independently. Our Client also needs and individual who is capable of working quickly through a large volume of caseloads. Own transport would be an advantage.
