About the Role:

The successful candidate will help our client design and deliver a whole range of projects aimed at improving the UK highways. Acting as the key support to one of the Senior Engineers, you’ll produce construction documents and help us with the day-to-day management of projects. Whether you’re producing technical drawings, carrying out research, or monitoring our on-site progress, your contribution will be vital to the success of our work in this division.

About You:

As someone who’s worked on similar projects already, you’ll be more than ready for the diverse challenges of this role. Educated to at least A-Level or HND standard, you’ll combine a background in civil engineering with a good understanding of structural road maintenance. You’ll also ideally have good MS Project and AutoCAD skills, too. Now, you’ll want to bring your energy and drive to one of the most successful highway companies in the UK.

In Hertfordshire, they have joined forces with the County Council and Amey Lafarge to form Hertfordshire Highways – an innovative organisation which is responsible for all aspects of highways work, from refurbishing worn-out roads to investigating accident sites and enhancing the general highways environment.

Job Spec:

PURPOSE:

For the successful delivery of own schemes, within program, budget and design solution.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Assisting Senior Engineer in delivery of schemes;
- Effective project management of own schemes;
- Producing documents and drawings with all relevant back ground information for construction;
- Prepare reports on identified problems and recommend suitable solutions.
- Good report writing skills;
- Carry out specific items of research as directed by Senior / Principal Engineer;
- Have a good understanding of CDM 2007, Health and Safety and Environmental management;
- Undertake site visits for design and construction purposes;
- Actively contributing to team and scheme progress meetings;
- Ensuring effective monitoring of own site works;
- Monitor financial aspects of own schemes and that of junior staff; &
- Comply with company instructions, procedures and requirements.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

Qualifications:

Essential: “A� levels, ONC / OND, HNC / HND. Desirable: BEng/MEng or equivalent degree. Working towards professional status – IEng/CEng.

Knowledge / Experience:

You will have a good varied experience in civil engineering, especially structural road maintenance work. Essential: Knowledge of current design standards and practices.

Technical Skills / Ability:

Must be computer literate. MS Project, AutoCAD experience will be an advantage. Ability to work under minimum supervision essential. You will have the drive and determination to meet targets. Valid clean UK driving licence essential.

Competencies / Personal Attributes:

Good communication skills and excellent report writing. You must be a team player yet able to work alone. You will be interested in working in both an office environment and spending time out on the road network. Have a flexible thought process and be able to adapt to changes as required by the business and clients.
