Job Description

Junior / Trainee Engineers x 2 for Contractor in the Civils sector. These are additional positions for a Civils Contractor involved in medium sized Civil Engineering Projects, with some Term Maintenance Contracts, that are carried out for a number of commercial bodies, private clients, Government departments and local authorities in the London area by this established Contractor. Having been heavily involved in the regeneration of the Docklands area in East London, with former clients including the London Docklands Development Corporation where they completed both road and main drainage contracts, they are well placed for major works on the new Olympics sites.

The Role. Recently qualified or graduated from a Civil Engineering or Construction related course, or enrolled at college and studying on day release, the position could suit you. Equally the position would be suitable to someone who has practical civils site experience and is prepared to return to education to gain a formal qualification.
There is a current requirement for two possibly three people to become involved with this successful and friendly company working on Civil Engineering Contracts.

Roads & Highways experience and knowledge would be preferred for this permanent position. It will help if you are conversant with Roads and Highway construction, with first hand knowledge of the processes involved and the sequence of construction that is entailed. Projects included road improvement schemes, new roads, bridges over rivers and railways, village bypass schemes, main drainage schemes, subways, tunnels and major hard and soft landscaping schemes.

The Company was formed over 40 years ago to compete for civil engineering contracts. It is a medium sized company operating regionally in London and the South-East. Being a regional company it values its clients. Many of the staff are long term employees of the company and offer a wealth of experience as well as commitment to the company, its reputation and its future.

Town Centre Improvements, traffic calming, pedestrianisation schemes, Red Route construction and bus lane improvements now form a substantial part of their workload. The company employs Chartered Civil Engineers, offering a full design and construction service to clients. A number of projects have been completed on this basis. A project management service is also available as well as the standard construction contract to the client's design and specification.

Qualified or Part Qualified in the Civil Engineering field to Degree, Diploma or HNC level, you will be able to read and interpret drawings, be able to clearly and accurately communicate this information and be fully IT literate. If you are currently seeking to take on more responsibility than your present role allows this job may suit you; as will the idea of joining a company who will enable you to develop your career. There is scope to obtain your chartership and to undergo ongoing and career education and development.

Training is also available if the above brief outlines where you wish to be in a few years time. There is an option to employ an aspiring Civil Engineer who would be able to go on a day release course that combines the theory in the lecture hall with the practical of site and office work. Assistance would be available with course fees. To qualify you should be able to demonstrate a committed approach to construction learning.
