Fantastic opportunity for a Qualified Social Worker to join a Central London Private Fostering Team. The position has great potential to become ongoing, however it is covering for an employee currently on long-term sick leave. Please contact me immediately should you wish to be considered.

RESPONSIBLE TO: Private Fostering Team Manager


Basic Objectives

·To undertake all tasks and duties in accordance with service standards and ensure the achievement of key national and departmental performance indicators.

·To assess the child and the suitability of private foster carers, to monitor, supervise, advice, support and train the private foster carers appropriate to the needs of the privately fostered child.

·To obtain the parents (or person who holds PR) views in relation to the arrangement, the child's needs and the issues outlined in private fostering regulations (2005).

·To comply with the requirement to maintain confidentiality of information at all times, including details of service users, residents, clients, suppliers, contractors, staff and finances.

·To achieve the required standard of competence to effectively use industry standard applications such as Microsoft Office (mainly Word and Outlook) as well as social care record systems.

·To carry out all required administrative work on time, to ensure necessary statutory checks are completed and updated to agreed timescales, to carry out visits within required timeframes and to log the assessments/visits onto frameworki (in-house social care system).

Main Duties And Responsibilities

1.To participate in the private fostering awareness campaign. To pursue opportunities to heighten local awareness of private fostering arrangements both in general and among specific communities.

2.To follow up enquiries and notifications from parents and private foster carers to ensure that all required steps are taken, as outlined in the private fostering regulations 2005.

3.To assess private foster carers, to ascertain their suitability to care for children and to include all members of the household.

4.To carry out core assessments if required and in the assessment process to assess and identify any risks; to undertake follow up visits.

5.To ensure that statutory checks for carers and significant others are completed and updated to agreed timescales.

6.To ensure Health and Safety assessments are routinely undertaken.

7.To prepare and log information onto frameworki (in-house social care system) i.e. assessment reports of initial, core assessments, recording visits and contacts in relation to all private fostering arrangement.

8.To provide a social work service to private foster carers, including maintaining regular contact with carers and the child, formal visits undertaken according to agreed timescales.

9.To conduct a needs analysis of each private foster carer and each privately fostered child to ensure the child's needs are met and the welfare secured. To participate in training courses and other initiatives identified as relevant to their particular needs as private foster carers, evaluate their progress and skills development.
