Job Description

Position: Security & Communications Engineer
The position will involve some or all of the following key tasks at varying times:

Project Co-ordination Role
Act as project co-ordinator on selected projects - responsible for the firm's overall involvement on the project and the administration of design interface between disciplines.
Disciplines may include: communications, security, lifts, mechanical, electrical, fire protection and public health.
As project co-ordinator, take the role of prime point of contact between the client and the consultancy.

Design and Construction Phase Work
Design and documentation of Security & Communication Services for projects including commercial, retail, hospital, pharmaceutical or industrial developments, telecommunication facilities, data centres, refurbishment or tenancy fit outs, at varying stages of design.
Liaise with Client's, their representatives, utility providers and other stakeholders as part of the briefing and design process.
Present design concepts and alternatives to stakeholders.
Coordinate with other members of the design team including other service disciplines, internal or external, architects, cost consultants, structural engineers, and other consultants.
Costing, pricing and vendor screening, tender interviews and review.
Liaise with Contractors and Sub-Contractors to address construction related issues.
Review technical submissions by Contractors and Sub-Contractors against the specified requirements.
Review the quality of construction against the specified requirements.
Attend site meetings as appropriate and report on the status of the work and any items of concern.
Undertake Construction Administration on projects, designed by Consultancy.

Management
Liaise with Section Co-ordinator/Section Managers for other disciplines.
Check job-costing results for projects handled. Ensure correctness prior to closing off for the month.
Raise fee invoices with accounts staff for forwarding to clients.
Participate in regular meetings as required to discuss management and financial issues.
Complete time sheets in accordance with the consultancy's policy.
‘Security & Communications' includes access control, intruder alarm, CCTV, active and passive networking, structured cabling, voice communications, audio visual systems and video conferencing.

Training
Identify areas where training may assist either individuals or the group.
Take part in personal training as required.
Research & Development (R&D)
Undertake R&D tasks as identified from time to time including, for example:
Review of standard documentation
Review of applicable industry standars and design guides
Review of new technology and reporting on it's application
Research of products, techniques, product alternatives etc.
Attend regular R&D meetings and support R&D committee members.
