Job Description

The Upper Thames Reservoir Technical Manager is a new role within the Strategic Projects team of the Environment, Quality and Sustainability department. Reporting to the Environmental Assessment Manager, the Upper Thames Reservoir Technical Manager will manage the EIA process of this complex and demanding project. Specifically the Upper Thames Reservoir Technical Manager will be responsible for;

  • The technical management of the EIA consultants on a day to day basis.
  • The delivery of the EIA to time, budget and quality.
  • The facilitation of the relationship between the EIA consultants, other consultants and the rest of the Thames Water team.
  • Working with the consultants to identify problems and issues at an early stage and develop means to resolve them.
  • Ensuring tight co-ordination between the wide ranging activities of a large and complex team of consultants to avoid duplication and inconsistencies.
  • Providing a technical check on all consultant activities to ensure that studies are comprehensive and yet fit for purpose.
  • Encouraging a positive working environment conducive to technical specialists contributing creative and smart solutions under pressure.
  • Close working relationship with the Town Planning team to ensure that the EIA meets the requirements of the planning strategy and provides appropriate support to the planning application and public inquiry process.
  • Reporting of progress, cost and risk.
  • Project management of in-house input to the EIA.

    The post will be supported by members of the Strategic Projects team with expertise in the areas of EIA, SEA, Environmental Economics, Water Quality Modelling, Hydrology, Ecology, Landscape and ecological mitigation. Although the EIA is to be undertaken by consultants, Thames Water adopts a policy of close management and technical review to ensure that the scope of works is both adequate and fit for purpose. The team has a good track record in successfully managing EIAs of high profile capital schemes to ensure that planning permission is secured.


    Salary: £27-35,000 p/a
