Job Description
To develop, promote the delivery of School Travel Plans monitoring reviews and provide support for the implementation of actions and initiatives resulting from them.
To develop a strategy for the long term provision of support for School Travel Planning to ensure its long term sustainability.
Key accountabilities:
1. To develop and co-ordinate support for school communities creating and implementing School Travel Plans (STP’s) monitoring reviews, assisting schools to progress funding bids.
2. Form and facilitate a group of relevant partners into a School Strategy Group to support the development of a local strategy to promote and implement school STP’s across the authority linking to appropriate transportation, education, social inclusion health and community strategies.
3. To consider, develop and implement a promotion and publicity strategy for school travel plans which will ensure that schools are aware of and know how to access relevant and appropriate information about school travel plans through presentations and existing publications and through the identification of other opportunities.
4. To build upon and develop effective working relationships with a range of individuals, agencies and organisations (both internally and externally) to ensure that available resources, information and expertise are maximised to the benefit of school communities.
5. To co-ordinate and support carefully planned integrated work with partners from councils, police and health authority, parishes, schools, parents, local communities and other agencies to assist the development and implementation of STP’s that will improve safety and reduce car dependence on the school journey to school.
6. To review existing monitoring and evaluation procedures and develop and implement ways to accurately determine and record progress made by schools tackling and implement STP’s.
7. To provide regular progress reports to the local School Travel Strategy Group and nationally via the Regional School Travel Advisors.

Criteria
Skills and abilities Excellent communication skills at all levels: written, listening
and verbal for public speaking.
Organisational skills for planning activities
Ability to produce complicated written reports and letters
Must be able to collate, analyse, interpret and present data
Ability to work as part of a team and also able to work on own
initiative within defined parameters
Ability to be mobile within and outside of the borough
Ability to prepare promotional material, develop publicity
campaigns and to organise public events
Specialist knowledge
Knowledge of School Travel Strategies and plans
Able to use I.T. and be familiar with packages such as Word,
Excel, Access and Power point
Demonstrable understanding of the Primary and Secondary
Education system
Ability to use Microsoft Map point Experience
Experience of working in one or more of the following areas-
transport, planning, traffic engineering, road safety, education,
marketing and campaigning
Experience of undertaking public consultation and working with
schools and educational establishments
Experience of meeting with elected members and governors
