Job Description

A local authority based in the South of England is currently seeking the services of an Interim Client Project Manager. They are a unitary authority responsible for all local government services within the town. The successful incumbent will be responsible for the timely delivery of specific Capital Projects as directed, through effective briefing, leadership and management of external contractors. The Borough currently has a programme of capital construction works that include projects relating to Schools Changing the Age Transfer Programme, Schools Primary Capital Programme and the Sure Start Programme.
The suitable candidate will be responsible for the following:
• Effective coordination of projects, ensuring all projects are well planned, effectively briefed and have appropriate budgetary provision and realistic timescales
• Managing projects that range from £250k to £10million
• Providing early advice to clients during project initiation and in the development of design briefs, budgets and programmes
• Leading, managing and motivating project teams through supporting, challenging and guiding the external project manager
• Ensuring projects are delivered on time with appropriate levels of quality
• Risk management to ensure project’s outcome and manage these risks accordingly
• Assisting with the review and development of procedures and standards associated with the procurement design and construction of building works, promoting industry best practice and added value
• Ensuring the adequacy of Health, Safety and Environmental planning within the project framework
• Reporting to the client at regular intervals the status and progress of various projects at any given time
• Success and quality assurance measures
• Budget and timescale tolerance
• Proactively resolving problems and escalating as necessary
• Setting up and chairing Project Team meetings
A successful applicant will meet all the following criteria:
• Degree Qualified
• Strong knowledge and credible experience in Project Management ideally in the Education and Local Authority environments
• Exposure and experience in the delivery of complex construction projects in schools
• Experience of managing external design teams during RiBA stages A-H
• Able to build and maintain excellent working relationships with all stakeholders
• Problem solving acumen
• Leadership experience in combination with knowledge of planning techniques
• Budget and resource allocation
• Strong communication skills
