Job Description

Purpose of the Job

To deputise for the Team Manager, assist in the management of the whole staff group and have particular responsibility for the line management and supervision of an allocated group of staff within the Team.

To contribute to the process of referral and initial assessments of children in need, and to undertake “core” assessments for a small number of the more complex situations. This also includes contributing to assessments being undertaken by to other members of the team.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

To assist the Team Manager in all aspects of the management functions within the team.

To provide consultation to team members and regular supervision for a designated number of staff within the Referral and Assessment, helping staff to develop their skills and knowledge in respect of the assessment and care planning.

To assist the Team Manager in the initial screening and decision making regarding the assessment of children in need referred to the Referral and Assessment Service, and to manage and co-ordinate initial action by the referral and assessment team, and any arrangements which are necessary to promote the well-being of the child whilst the assessment is in process. This includes managing cases through the early stages of care proceedings in the court, and planning the initial arrangements for children to become looked after.

To assist the Team Manager in the allocation of work and review of the quality of the team’s work against agreed standards, taking action where necessary to ensure standards are attained.

In consultation with the Team Manager, to chair statutory reviews, strategy meetings, planning meetings and other professional network meetings.

Candidates are required to hold a clear enhanced CRB, references covering the last 5 years and a full CV covering and explaining any gaps in your employment history and also having the reasons for leaving previous posts.

Candidates need to be registered with the General Social Care Council.
