Job Description

• To participate in the duty rota system, working in partnership with Children’s Services social workers to co-ordinate fostering, adoption and adult referrals.

• To write detailed referrals, reviews and reports that reflect an understanding of the needs of Looked after Children and a commitment to culturally sensitive practice.

• To liaise, problem solve and negotiate with social workers, foster carers, independent fostering agencies and members of the public to ensure the best interest of the child are met.

• To carry a complex caseload.

• To carry out her/his duties with due regard to the Council’s Customer Care, Equal Opportunities and Best Value Policies and incorporating the Council’s Core Competencies.

• To be aware of and work within appropriate financial regulations and procedures and to ensure that the most effective use is made of financial and other resources.

• The ability to work as part of a team.

• To maintain performance against targets, and comply with workload management systems.

• To contribute towards the development of best practice within the unit.

• To take a high degree of responsibility for professional development.

• To keep abreast of relevant legislation and regulations, departmental policies and procedures affecting the fostering service.

• To participate in regular supervision and the Performance Management Employee Development Service.

• To take part in the provision of training for foster carers.

• To help placing social workers to monitor the compliance of independent sector providers with contractual agreements, care plans and placement plans.

• To negotiate the Pan London Contract with individual homes and seek to resolve any issues of non-compliance on the part of independent sector providers.

• Shows understanding of the principles of equality and values diversity in her or his dealings with fellow employees and customers/service users.

• Deputising for Team Manager when required.

• To undertake other such duties as required by the line manager
