Job Description

The Development Agency in one of the Midlands counties, requires a Town Planner for a maternity cover role. The candidate will take forward emda’s role as Statutory Consultee when responding to strategic planning applications of economic significance in the region. The basis of their work will be taken from the Regional Economic Strategy. The post holder will report to the Head of Planning and Infrastructure.

1. Provide support to the Sustainable Development Director and the Head of Planning & Infrastructure on taking forward emda’s role as statutory consultee on planning applications of economic significance.

2. Provide support to the Sustainable Development Director and the Head of Planning & Infrastructure when providing emda’s comments on Development Plans and guidance to colleagues throughout the agency on emda’s position in response.

3. Provide advice giving a clear emda position on how to respond to regional economic priorities as presented in the Regional Economic Strategy within the contact of development plans, RSS8 and other relevant policy documents including PPGs and PPSs. Work with key statutory agencies, when representing emda’s views in the development and delivery of responses to the statutory consultee role.

4. Ensure adequate dialogue with emda’s Directorates by providing technical advice when required on development control matters particularly in its direct development activities, and in taking forward the interests of the Sub-regional Strategic Partnerships.

5. Represent emda at Planning Enquiries when appropriate.

6. Maintain and further develop constructive working relationships with key external partners, through the agreed protocols of the Planning Charter including local authorities, GO-EM and the Regional Assembly.
