Job Description

Main duties of the post:-

1. Examination for compliance with building control legislation of Building Regulation submissions and building work on site as instructed, including keeping accurate records and making recommendations to the Principal Building Surveyor.

2. Undertaking general office routines appropriate to the service e.g. correspondence, telephone calls, research, drafting reports etc; maintaining CPD, assisting with training, attending court as an expert witness, complying with Health and Safety legislation and any other broadly analogous duties that may be added from time-to-time.

3. Dealing with dangerous structure incidents (including liaising with Council contractors, drafting schedules of work, notices etc.), contraventions of building control legislation (including preparing proofs of evidence etc.), demolition notices, relaxation/dispensation applications, appeals and determinations etc. all in accordance with the appropriate legislation and guidance.

4. Dealing with the full range of duties involving the more complex projects and assisting the Principal Building Control Surveyors as necessary with occasional supervision.

5. Planning and arranging work within agreed timescales and deadlines as necessary.

6. Investigating claims (both on site and the examination of old records) from owners of property arising from building defects attributed to the Council’s negligent responsibilities.

7. Assisting the more senior Building Control Surveyors where necessary and where required.

APPLICABLE TO ALL STAGES

To comply with Health and Safety at work requirements as appropriate to the post.
To use new technology as appropriate to the post and to comply with ICT policies.
To work to documented procedures and processes in accordance with the Quality Assured Management System to BS EN ISO 9001 : 2000.
To undertake such duties as might be determined by the Chief Officer or his/her representative in preparing for, and responding to, a major incident or emergency.
