Job Description
Due to continued growth, our client are seeking dynamic, innovative, enthusiastic and flexible Practice Nurse to join their innovative , friendly and hardworking nursing team. They are a 12 doctor, thriving general practice in South London providing a wide range of primary care including specialist clinics across 3 sites.
You will exhibit high levels of clinical competence and demonstrate good communication and IT skills and have the ability to work autonomously and as part of a team. Experience in GP work is essential.

MAIN DUTIES:
Nursing procedures as appropriate under the guidance of the doctors which includes dressings, removal of sutures, ear syringing, urine testing, blood pressure recording, family planning work (including the taking of cervical smears), immunisation and other injections, and any other nursing procedures as agreed with the doctors and where necessary the patients.
Registering and screening new patients by providing ‘new patient’ medical. Identify and route patients to appropriate screening clinics.
Maintenance of adequate records of all consultations and procedures in accordance with practice policy, including submission of all relevant P.C.T. claim forms. An ‘adequate record’ includes the accurate and timely addition of data to the practice computerised system.
Follow up consultations as agreed with the doctors.
To help doctors care and visit patients over 75 as required.
Screening and health promotion (e.g. taking cervical smears, assessing the needs of the elderly, giving advice on healthy living) with agreed protocols and referral to GPs as necessary.
Screening procedures to detect CHD, diabetes and asthma.
Identify areas of patient's need for health education and provide the necessary information. Arrange further screening and advice if needed.
Run chronic disease clinics, in particular, for diabetes and asthma. Maintain strict control over shared care with hospitals so as to prevent duplication of work. Maintain and update a register for asthmatic and diabetic patients. Assist in the audit of services provided in these areas and develop and implement policies to upgrade the services.
Liaise with midwives and doctors to ensure appropriate antenatal and post-natal care.
Liaise with Health Visitors and help run baby and child health surveillance clinics.
Provide the appropriate nursing services and advice to patients regarding family planning and cytology.
To maintain professional development by attending courses and study days as arranged with the practice. To attend appropriate courses which will improve knowledge and efficiency.
To participate in education and training of students of all disciplines within the practice.
To attend staff and practice meetings as and when necessary.
