REPORTS TO: Structural Engineering Manager

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To provide a comprehensive support service to the Construction and
pre-tender teams within the southern business units. To offer advice,
guidance and assistance through the design and review of temporary
works/structures by providing innovative solutions to structural problems.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

*Liaise regularly with the Construction and Site Managers through attending sites offering support and guidance as required
*Provide support to the pre-tender and estimating teams with preliminary
designs for temporary works
*Foster relationships with clients, their representatives and consultants
through attendance at meetings as required
*Attend tender interviews as and when required
*Provide detailed activity summaries for inclusion within monthly board
reports
*Provide advice and guidance on engineering standards and site quality
control issues
*Produce and review method statements for inclusion within tender
submissions and post contract awards
*Design detailed sketches of temporary propping to support new or
existing structures during alterations
*Design detailed sketches of shuttering and falsework
*Analyse and review temporary works designs provided by external
consultants
*Design sheet piling and propping to support excavations
*Design work platforms to support piling rigs and construction equipment
*Design of foundations for temporary tower cranes
*Design of propping and validation of ground capacity for mobile crane
operations
*Design of support structures for retained facades
*Provide innovative solutions to structural problems
*Inspect and investigate any project defects and recommend and implement
suitable solutions

JOB CONTEXT

The jobholder will be required deliver a consistent support service to the
southern business units. The jobholder will be capable of working using
their own initiative whilst as part of multiple site teams. The jobholder
will be adept at problem solving, methodical in approach and have the
ability to communicate effectively at all levels.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

*Minimum of 7 years post-graduate experience within a similar role
including extensive practical site exposure
*Degree qualified
*Broad engineering knowledge with a bias for building structures
*Sound knowledge of Heath & Safety requirements and Codes of Practice
*Excellent influencing skills
*Excellent prioritisation and time management skills
*Excellent communications skills
*Good knowledge of MS applications e.g. Word, Excel
*Chartered Engineer (desirable although not essential)
