Job Description

We are looking for a Trainee Quantity Surveyor who would be interested in moving to a medium sized Developer / Contractor who is steadily growing and expanding in a field that focuses on affordable accommodation and Housing Association projects. Enthusiasm and a desire to learn are very important in the successful candidate.


The Company. Involved in a mix of social and private housing, in new build and refurbishment sectors, specialise in finding and reclaiming sites, identifying their full potential, based on their size, shape, accessibility and immediate surroundings, always taking into account the local planning authority's housing policy. They have Design & Build capability embracing a wide range of types and styles of development, including luxury executive homes, affordable housing and special housing for the disabled and put together complete site development packages with planning consent which maximise the site value and compliment the local environment.


The Project sizes vary from 3 -4 units to larger developments of 50 plus units, generally in the timber frame area though there are also RC flats in a single & multiple blocks. Traditional construction will sometimes incorporate masonry and pre-cast floor slabs.


Trainee Quantity Surveyor. You will have a background that shows that you are interested in developing a future in construction, but may feel that you are not getting the opportunities where you are currently working, be capable of either working alone, under supervision, or as a number 2 on a larger scheme. Exposure to construction through working for a contractor, in a builder’s merchants or specialist sub-contractors employ would also be suitable.


Education. We expect that you are either currently on a day release course, or have signed up for a further studies in the Quantity Surveying field. Your course fees would be covered by your new employer.

Working Conditions. Your working hours would generally be 0800 to 1700 for a 5 day week, with 20 days holiday per year of which 1 week is taken at Xmas. The proposed salary package would be £18 to 20,000, though this is negotiable, based on experience, plus expenses. The company work hard to retain their staff, and you will be joining a friendly company. Only applicants who are legally permitted to live and work in the UK will be considered.
