Have you worked as a nanny before? Perhaps you even babysat the neighbourhood kids when you were at school. If you can provide some good references regarding your childcare or general caring experience and abilities then this could be a good employment option for you.

There are plenty of jobs available as either a Nanny or a Carer.

UK Jobs with children can be referred to as Nanny, Au Pair or Mother’s Help and can range from live-in positions where you are responsible for running the household to casual pick ups from school, afternoon playtime or evening baby-sitting duty. Benefits of this type of employment include developing lasting relationships with the families/children, sometimes includes use of a car, good pay and bonus potential, and live-in work includes accommodation and most meals. A childcare course or certification is preferred but not necessarily required.

On the other hand, Carer jobs in the UK will generally require experience in looking after elderly, special needs or disabled (mentally or physically) individuals, but if you are a particularly patient and responsible person and are up for the rewards and challenges, definitely consider this employment option and contact our UK recruitment partners in this area. Rates of pay for Carers start from around £40 per day.
Experience providing care services is preferred in the UK but not necessarily required as Agencies now offer training as part of the recent Care Standards Act in the UK. WORKgateways’ partner recruitment agencies in this area are certified agencies under the UK Care Standards Act.

Both Nanny and Carer jobs require CV’s, references and a police check which should be organised before you leave home and brought with you.

It can take from one day to several weeks to find a placement depending on the location and type of position for which you are looking. Obviously job-seekers more flexible in their consideration of required duties or job location will usually find work more quickly. Many Nanny and Carer jobs will require one or two interviews and detailed reference checking.

  • Pluses: Building relationships with the children or adults for whom you care.
