Hi everyone, Quinn here, I have been given the wonderful opportunity of writing this month's newsletter. I thought I might try something a little different. If any of you have been to a WORKgateways information session or received an email from me you will know that I am straight to the point. I will make up for any lack of grammatical flair by providing important insight. Tips and thoughts that I hope will make a huge difference for some of you. In this issue I will cover one of my favourite topics and it applies to everyone - whether you're in the UK or just planning. On with the good stuff!...
If you are planning a trip to the UK - save time and have more fun by getting a job sooner. Read our FAQ's.
Every month WORKgateways looks at some of the major jobs and recruitment areas with which we deal. We put together comments and provide the latest news. For a complete view of current job vacancies through WORKgateways in the UK.
Engineering Jobs UK - As always engineering is in top shape particularly the Civil areas. In particular demand at the moment at Structural Engineers with high-rise experience, Highway Traffic and Transport, Water Engineers and Engineers with Telecoms experience. Yes, you heard right - Telecoms is back! For all you Mechanical Engineers and Electrical Engineers stay tuned, we are actively looking for agencies to join our growing list of partners.
Construction Jobs UK - Carmichael Site Services told us last week that many huge projects are kicking off next year - great news for all you construction professionals. If you are thinking about going to the UK - 2004 could be your best bet!
Nursing Jobs UK - Happy Days! Just in the last week we have had 3 major agencies in the UK contact us to see if we can provide nurses. Many of them provide great incentives too! I expect this situation will only continue in the New Year. If you are a Nurse and have plans to go to the UK in the next 2 years - we recommend you apply to some of our jobs now.
Teaching Jobs UK - Demand continues unabated! If you have plans to work in the UK register now.
In the UK! Or Still in Australia/NZ/SA/Canada?
DO IT - You've got everything to gain!
Are you thinking about going to the UK in the future? Have you been in the UK for a few years and considering your next step?
Are you meaning to go but seem to find reasons to put it back? Should I go now? What if there are no jobs?
What if I haven't saved enough money?
I am here to tell you from personal experience, and from seeing many hundreds of people take the plunge, that these questions are normal. For these people "taking the plunge" is one of the best things they will ever do. Why? The answer lies in human nature. Humans love to be comfortable. We work hard to create an environment where we are in control. This feeling of security may be good for a while, but pretty soon we take a look at ourselves and think, "what am I doing?", "I'm fine, but am I really doing what I want?"
For many, travel is the opportunity to get well and truly out of the comfort zone. The best thing is - it's not as hard as you think. All you really need to do is buy the ticket, say good-bye to your friends and loved ones and "DO IT". It's really just a mind-set after all.
From a personal perspective, what happened to me was amazing. After leaving Australia in '94, I had no idea I wouldn't be home (in Australia) to live until 6 years later. So many adventures, places, friends, jobs, experiences..
There is so much out there, so many things to learn about yourself and the rest of the world, so many places to visit, so many jobs to take, so many comfort zones to step out of and so many boundaries to stretch. Traveling and working in new countries enables people to grow and with every new experience you will get one step closer to where you want be.
So what are you waiting for?
Stretch your boundaries - you will be glad you did.
