October's here, the nights are closing in and the mornings have a touch of frost about them. Although we're not quite bringing out the woollies yet, we are starting to fantasise about hot meals of bangers and mash beside crackling fires in our favourite pubs, and jaunts off to the ski fields of Switzerland and France. This month we're all about helping you out with those pesky visa applications and giving you the latest job info, plus we want to set you up to have the best time possible in the UK...
Changes to Tier 5 Youth Mobility Visa guidance
The UK Border Agency has updated the guidance for Youth Mobility Visa applicants, providing clarification on the proof you need to show of your savings.
Before applying for a UK visa, you should always check out the most up-to-date guidance on the UK Border Agency website. The guidance for Tiers 1,2 and 5 of the UK points-based system have recently been updated. They have clarified the types of funds you can use to show proof of the £1600 you need to qualify for the Youth Mobility Visa and the exchange rate you need to use (plus other points about other visas).

Our favourite London and UK websites
In addition to WORKgateways.com (of course) these are some fab sites we think you should add to your bookmarks in preparation for your UK trip (or even if you're a seasoned pro).
Em Cartoons - Formerly the popular cartoon strip for the now sadly defunct thelondonpaper, Em Cartoons chronicle the life of a young 20-something moving to London - see her trials and tribulations of flat-hunting, going out, dating and shacking up with your boyfriend. Just for fun.
View London - The essential guide to London bars and pubs - worth searching for ideal meeting places for all those pints and pub dinners. There are also sites for other major cities - see View Manchester, View Bristol, View Cardiff, View Birmingham and more...
Tranzfers - At some point you'll probably have to get cash between your home bank account and the UK - whether it's to transfer your funds when you first move over, or to pay off that credit card bill you racked up at Oktoberfest. Tranzfers is our recommended money transfer partner, as they are the cheapest and easiest we've found, with transfers at just £7 a pop. Read our guide to international money transfers to find out more.
Get out and about in October
A couple of events we think you shouldn't miss in October...
The London Wine Show (22-25 October): The talk of the London events calender this time last year - if you love swilling a sauvignon, get down up to Angel for this vino sampling extravaganza. Great if you want to try some Aussie drops you miss from home or if you're a new arrival wanting to check out the fab, readily available blends coming out of Chile, South Africa and Europe.
London Film Festival (14-29 October): Showcasing the best new films from around the world in cinemas and venues across the capital.
Halloween (31 October): If you've come from the southern hemisphere, you're probably not used to celebrating All Hallows Eve - in the UK, prepare yourself for dress-up parties, themed nights in bars and trick or treating. The Brits might not go quite as mad as the Americans but it's still a significant party evening.
